Water Ministry's measures to encourage water harvesting methods

New Delhi, Apr 12 (UNI) The Ministry of Water Resources has taken several measures both in urban and rural areas of the country in an effort to tap the rain water to improve the ground water situation in urban areas.

While the Ministry has asked several other Ministries and Departments to provide roof top water harvesting in the buildings under their control it will be implementing demonstrative scheme through NGOs for providing for construction of roof top water harvesting structures for collection of rain water for drinking and for girls toilets in the girls schools in the states.

The Central Ground Water Authority (CGWA) has directed Chief Secretaries of states to take measures to adopt artificial recharge of ground water and promote RWH in over-exploited areas in their territories. Various group housing societies, industries, farm houses in Delhi, Faridabad, Gurgaon and Ghaziabad and other NCT areas have been asked to adopt RWH system as the ground water table had gone down below eight metres from the surface.
