Tripura to observe Tuber Crops Day

Agartala, Apr 12: The Tripura centre of Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) will observe Tuber Crops Day (TCD) in West district on April 17, official sources said here today.

The TCD is being organised jointly by the Central Tuber Crop Research Institute (CTCRI) in Thiruvananthapuram and ICAR.

On the occassion, CTCRI and ICAR would distribute planting materials of Tapioca, Sweet Potato, Diaschoria, Elephant Foot Yan amongs the tribal farmers and SHGs in West District, ICAR sources said.

Tuber Crops, considered as subsidiary food crop, forms an important part in the nutrition as well as in the ecomony of the people here. These crops can be cultivated both on high and low land. The programme would be inaugurated by Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC) chief executive member Aghore Debbarma.
