Trichy BHEL unit to augument capacity to 10,000 mw

Tiruchirapalli, Apr 12 (UNI) The local unit of the Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL) will augment its capacity to 10,000 mw from the existing 4,000 mw by 2009.

Inaugurating a two-day International Workshop on Manufacturing Technology Realms Ahead, Advisor of the unit, S Sathyanarayanan said the proposal for the massive augmentation project had been sent to the BHEL Corporate office.

Presently, the unit was implementing a Rs 190 crore capacity augmentation scheme to increase the plant's present capacity of 4,000 mw to 5750 mw, for which the civil works and erection of new machineries and equipment were progressing. They were expected to be completed by October this year, he said.

BHEL, Tiruchirapalli and the Ranipet unit together had produced 3.90 lakh tonnes of boiler components and auxiliaries, he said and stressed the need for creating certain facilities to attract talents to the heavy industries and welding sectors as they prefer to go Information Technology,Business Process Outsourcing and other sectors.

G Uma Shankar, WRI Head said the company was planning to set up a research and development centre for advanced fabrication for developing new process and technology.

He said the two-day workshop would focus on various emerging technologies such as hydro-forming, low cost automation, heat treatment, robotics, laser materials, simulation and modeling of manufacturing processes, heavy engineering, fabrication, among other things.

About 200 hundred delegates from various parts of the country and experts from United States, France, Japan and European countries were taking part in the seminar.
