Supply voter list free of cost to national parties, says CPM

Shimla, Apr 12 (UNI) Taking exception to Shimla Municipal Corporation decision to charge Rs five per page of the voter list, Shimla district committee of the CPM today urged the state election commission to provide voter lists free of cost to the national parties In a letter addressed to the state election commission, copies of which were also faxed to the media, party Shimla district secretary Sanjay Chauhan said the lists should be made available to the national parties free of cost, while a nominal fee of 50 paise per page should be levied from others.

He criticised the Shimla Municipal Corporation for charging Rs five per page of the voter list from the politicial parties and said this would entail a total expenditure of around Rs 10,000, which was ''too exorbinat'', he said.

Urging the commission to intervene in the matter, Mr Chauhan said the same amount would also be charged from them during the Lok Sabha and Assembly elections.
