Sharp-shooter turned politician aims for separate Purvanchal

Varanasi, Apr 12 (UNI) A sharp-shooter contesting the Uttar Pradesh assembly election from behind bars has announced to spearhead the cause for a separate Purvanchal state out of East UP districts.

Sujit Singh 'Belwa,' a sharp-shooter who allegedly runs his own gang filed nomination as the Bharatiya Samaj Party candidate from Gangapur assembly seat of the district yesterday.

Lodged in the district jail here, Sujit facing trial in at least 15 criminal cases told newspersons here ''If the electorate paves my passage to the Vidhan Sabha I will religiously work for the creation of a separate Purvanchal state to be carved out of entire East UP.'' ''It has been a long pending demand of the population of East UP to create a separate state just like Uttaranchal and Jharkhand and I will definitely work for that cause.'' He also said if elected to Vidhan Sabha he would work hard for for reservation to economically weaker sections among the upper castes.

The sharp-shooter is contesting the election from Gangapur seat currently represented by Samajwadi Party MLA and state minister Surendra Singh Patel.
