Rs 134.78 cr for checking Avian flu: Cabinet
New Delhi, Apr 12 (UNI) The Centre today approved a Rs 134.78 crore scheme to minimise the threat posed by Avian influenza to animals and humans, of which Rs 126 crore would be reimbursed by the World Bank.
Under the scheme, there would be pre-outbreak preparedness, planning and coordination and an outbreak containment plan.
There would be a Bird Flu Cell in the Department of Animal Husbandry, Dairying and Fisheries.
The decision was taken at a CCEA meeting chaired by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, Information and Broadcasting Minister Priya Ranjan Dasmunsi told reporters.
The scheme would also facilitate control of the disease at source (animal), preparation of a response plan in the event of a pandemic and reduce morbidity, mortality and social disruption.
