Aizawl, Apr 12: The Opposition parties in Mizoram are up in arms again against the alleged Chief Minister Office's move to appoint former Mizoram chief secretary H V Lalringa as the chief minister's security adviser.

Leaders of the three opposition parties- Congress, Zoram Nationalist Party and Mizoram People's Conference, have made it clear that appointing another adviser in addition to the ''excessive'' chief minister's advisers is nothing, but "showering personal favour on a person at the expense of the state's exchequer." Mizoram Pradesh Congress vice-president and MLA R Lalzirliana said, ''the appointment of another adviser to add to the four advisers already appointed is totally unnecessary. It would be a waste of money because these advisers are given the rank, amenities and facilities as ministers of state.'' The legislator said that if the Chief Minister appointed a security adviser, while announcing to the world that Mizoram is the most peaceful state it would mean nothing less than accepting the Opposition's charges that the government has a strong nexus with underground elements and is even supplying them with arms.

''Appointing a security adviser would mean the chief minister has no trust in his Home minister, Home secretary and the intelligence agencies,'' he added.

ZNP president Lalduhoma said, ''The very name of security adviser would be a shock to the people who could consider it an affront to the peaceful status of the state.'' At present Chief Minister Zoramthanga has R. Khawpuithanga, a MNF legislator, Lalhuapzuava, K.V. Tlangmawia and Ramhluna Khiangte as his advisers.
