Meghalaya woo investors to invest in diff sectors

Shillong, Apr 12: The Meghalaya government is creating a congenial atmosphere for industrialists to come and invest in the state in different sectors, Chief Minister D D Lapang said.

Inviting industrialists at the 3rd North East Business Summit to invest in the land of abode of clouds, Mr Lapang assured that insurgency was being dealt with firmly in the state.

He also asked the investors to make their own assessment of the security climate in the state. ''We are ready to enter into dialogue with Industry to take all possible measures to ally fears and endanger a sense of security,'' he added.

Informing about the investment opportunities in the state, the Chief Minister said, Meghalaya is emerging as a major player in the Cement and Ferro Alloy industries. Agriculture and Horticulture produce as well as timber forest produce constitute a vast resources base for the growth of various kinds of processing industries, he asserted.

He further said that Tourism is another area which can be developed into a dream destination of North East.

On Information and Technology, the Chief Minister said Meghalaya has ample scope in this sector stating that the English speaking population in the state is an asset for IT enabled service provider.

He said that with the proposal for setting up an IT park in Shillong by STPI, New Delhi, investors should find Meghalaya an attractive destination for IT enabled service Mr Lapang also made special announcement that the state government is paying special attention to Garo Hills to improve security scenario and to attract investment.

He said the government is acquiring 182 hectares of land at Mendipathar, East Garo Hills to develop into an industrial growth centre.

Claiming that Meghalaya is politically 'stable' and inspite of changes of government, the Chief Minister said that the industrial policy has remained unchanged.
