Karnataka: Jewargi bandh total

Gulbarga, Apr 12: Bandh call given by various farmers organisations, in protest against refusal to buy sugar cane by Renuka Sugar Factory, evoked good response in the town today with business establishments downing shutters and educational institutions remained closed.

The agitators demanded the Karnataka government to ensure that the Renuka Sugar Factory buys their sugar cane.

Deputy Superintendent of Police (Rural) S S Nayak told sources that elaborate bandobast had been made to maintain law and order and no untoward incident reported so far.

Yesterday, eight sugar cane farmers attempted suicide by consuming pesticide in front of the officials in protest against the refusal of Renuka Sugar factory refusing to buy their sugar cane.
