Srinagar, Apr 12: With a view to achieving the goal of 100 per cent literacy in Jammu and Kashmir, the state government has launched a massive programme under ''Sarva Shiksha Abhiyaan'' and other schemes.
As many as 728 new school buildings have been taken up for construction under the Abhiyan during the last fiscal in south Kashmir district of Pulwama.
The District Development Commissioner (DDC), Mehraj Ahmad Kakroo, said it requires attention for socio-economic reasons.
The Director School Education, Kashmir, said serious efforts were being made to the achieve the goal of 100 percent literacy in the state.
Meanwhile, 63629 students were provided mid day meal, whereas 1047 students were under the Pahari Language Development scheme and as many as 7318 students got scholarships last year.
