Howrah's platform - 22 inaugurated

Kolkata, Apr 12 (UNI) Minister of State for Railways R Velu today inaugurated platform - 22 at howrah station today.

Speaking the function, Mr Velu announced that this year will be observed as the 'Year of Cleanliness'.

An amount of Rs 356 crore had previously been sanctioned for passenger amenities. However, an incresaed amount of Rs 493 crore was finally released for the purpose, he said.

With the inauguration of this platform, it is expected that the flexibiliy in train services of both Eastern Railway and South Estern Railway will increase substantially.

The cost of constructing this platform that began in May 2006 was Rs 4.15 crore.

This 630 m long platform will also be able to accomodate long distance trains having upto 26 conventional coaches or 24 LHB type coaches.
