Govt fixes MSP of jute at Rs 1055

New Delhi, Apr 12 (UNI) The Government today fixed the minimum support price(MSP) of TD-5 grade jute at Rs 1055 per quintal for the year 2007-08.

The approved MSP for the TD-5 grade ex-Assam jute is higher by Rs 55 per quintal over the price of last year.

The corresponding MSP for other varieties and grades of jute across other regions would be fixed in accordance with the aggregate scores assigned to different grades, Information and Broadcasting Minister Priya Ranjan Dasmunsi told reporters.

A meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs(CCEA) it was decided that Jute Corporation of India will continue as the nodal agency to undertake price support operations and reimbursement of the losses, if any, said Mr Dasmunsi.

The enhancement of the MSP would protect the interest of jute growers through assured remunerative prices, he added.
