EC extends alternative photo identity for Ph III polling in UP

Lucknow, Apr 12 (UNI) The Election Commission today extended the facility of 15 alternative photo identities in place of the Election Photo Identity Cards (EPICs) during the third phase of polling to be held in 58 assembly seats on April 18.

EC had already given facility of alternative photo identity for the voters in the first phase of polling held on April 7 and Phase-II to be held tomorrow.

State Chief Electoral Officer(CEO) Anuj Kumar Bishnoi said here that the commission had also directed all the district authorities to prevent misuse of students identity cards during the polling.

''EC was informed that mass student ID cards are being prepared even after the cut off date of January 31,2007'', he said.

In another decision, the EC has permitted the polling agents to take the voters list inside the polling booth with the conditions that it will not be sent outside before the completion of the polling nor they can send any slip outside describing the name of any voter. The polling agents can also tick the names of the voters in their list who had voted.

The commission has also stated that the electoral rolls to be used for the polling would be the updated one and all, including the political parties and polling officials, will use the same one.
