Cong accuses Meerut admin of not giving place for Sonia's programme

Lucknow, Apr 12 (UNI) The Congress today charged the Meerut district administration with delibrately not providing place to hold a programme by party president Sonia Gandhi to campaign for party candidates in the area.

Talking to reporters here, Union minister and convenor of AICC media management Kapil Sibal claimed that earlier Congress had deposited money at Gymkhana club to hold her programme. But the administration claimed the programme could not be held there and suggested two other places. ''While we could not hold the programme in cantonment area due to obvious reasons, the other venue suggested was already booked,'' he said.

He claimed the district administration also kept delaying a decision to grant place to Amethi MP Rahul Gandhi to hold a similar programme.

In Meerut, Congress workers have already held protest demonstrations against the decision of the district administration.
