Chawla should quit after AG's indictment: BJP
New Delhi, Apr 12 (UNI) The BJP today said Election Commissioner Navin Chawla had no moral right to continue in his post after the Accountant-General in its report indicted him for ''misuse of power.'' The A-G's report observed that Mr Chawla, even after assuming the charge as Election Commissioner, kept the security provided to him when he was in the Delhi Vidyut Board. This security is deployed to protect the DVB installations in the capital.
Talking to newspersons, BJP spokesman Prakash Javadekar alleged that Mr Chawla had not taken the approval of the DVB for keeping the security with him for ''personal use'' which had cost the exchequer Rs 44 lakh.
By doing so Mr Chawla misused his position as an Election Commissioner and he has no right to continue in the post, Mr Javadekar said, adding the DVB security to Mr Chawla was withdrawn only after the A-G made the observation in the report.
