Charge sheet in fake encounter against 11 army, policemen filed

Srinagar, Apr 12 (UNI) Jammu and Kashmir police today filed a charge- sheet in a local court against five Rashtriya Rifles (RR) personnel, including a colonel and a Major and five police personnel, in alleged fake encounter killing of Hafiz Showkat in October last year.

Police also named a civilian, who allegedly identified Hafiz as a foreign militant, in the chargesheet filed in the court of Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM).

Police informed the court that army authorities were not cooperating with the investigation, so the army personnel could not be arrested.

The five police personnel, who are facing charges of killings of some more civilians in fake encounters and the accused civilian have already been arrested.

The court directed that a notice be issued to the army authorities whether they wanted to initiate a court martial against the accused RR personnel or the court will go ahead with proceedings.

The next of date of hearing has been fixed May 3 by the CJM.
