Cabinet approves 996 Km for National Highway upgradation

New Delhi, Apr 12 (UNI) To improve road and traffic safety and provide faster movement of vehicles, the Government today approved 996 Km for inclusion of upgaration for national highways which is now totalling 12,109 Km.

''With this inclusion, total length of National Highways to be upgraded under NHDP Phase-III would be 12,109 Km, the 11,113 Km approved length plus 996 Km,'' Information and Broadcasting Minister Priya Ranjan Dasmunsi said after the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA).

This will lead to reduction in vehicle operating cost and significant reduction in fuel consumption for the vehicle resulting in energy conservation.

The CCEA approval would also provide linkage to other corridors of high density/economic importance, tourism, pilgrimage, port connectvity and strategic importance.
