BJP demands cash incentive to farmers
Kanpur, Apr 12 (UNI) Terming the Congress-led UPA government at the centre ''anti-farmer'', Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) today demanded cash incentive to farmers.
''Punjab and Haryana are known for rich agricultural production.
It is painful that almost 40 per cent farmers have decided to quit farming,'' BJP senior leader and MP Kalraj Mishra claimed while addressing an election rally here.
''Congress has an old habit of making false promises. At Vidharba, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh had announced a special package worth Rs 3,750 crore to farmers. But, nothing was ever done. Three days after the Prime Minister's visit, seven debt-ridden farmers committed suicide,'' he alleged.
''In the last 10 yrs, over 1.4 lakh farmers have committed suicide. At present, about 50 per cent farmers in the country are debt-ridden,'' Mr Mishra claimed.
