Virbhadra launches NREGS scheme in Kangra
Dharamshala, Apr 11 (UNI) Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh today launched of the National Rural Employment Guarantee (NREGS) Scheme in Kangra district, making it the third district of the state where the scheme has been launched.
Addressing a gathering at Nurpur in the district after launching the scheme, he said the scheme should be extended to every district of the special category state to provide employment opportunities to the rural poor.
One person of a below poverty line (BPL) family in Chamba, Sirmaur and Kangra district of the state would be provided at least 100 days of guaranteed employment within a five km radius of their homes under the scheme.
Mr Singh said his government has approached the Centre for including every district of the state under the scheme and added that the panchayats should play an effective role in its implementation.
Observing that government was creating vast employment opportunities in the government and private sectors, he said over 33,000 vacant posts in government sector would be filled up soon, besides 60,000 already filled during the last for years.
