Two sentenced in fake currency case

New Delhi, Apr 11 (UNI) A local court today sentenced two persons to ten-year and five-year rigorous imprisonment for circulating counterfeit notes into India.

Additional Sessions Judge N P Kuashik sentenced Hargovind Singh and Kuldeep Sharma to 10-years-RI besides a fine of Rs 11 lakh and five-years-RI besides a fine of Rs 2.5 lakh, respectively.

According to prosecution, the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence caught Kuldeep carrying fake currency worth Rs 25 lakh near Western court at Janpath on November 25, 1998.

The consignment, according to the prosecution, was meant for Hargovind Singh. The notes were all in denominations of 500.

Taking serious note of the fast spreading tentacles of organised crime, the court ordered it to be dealt with a firm hand.
