Tax collection increases by 23 per cent : Modi
Patna, Apr 11 (UNI) Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Sushil Kumar Modi today claimed that tax collection by the state commercial taxes department during the 2006-07 fiscal had increased by 23 per cent over its previous year.
In a release issued here, Mr Modi, who also holds the finance portfolio, said that increase in tax collection was possible following rationalisation of tax slabs on more than 150 commodities.
During the financial year 2005-06, tax collection was Rs 2389.98 crore while it accrued to Rs 2941.22 crore in 2006-07, he said adding the figure might increase as reports were still reaching from some areas.
'' With active support from entrepreneurs and businessmen, the state government expects to mop up more revenue in this sector during the current financial year,'' he added.
