Shekhawat to deliver Convocation address at UAS on Apr 13

Bangalore, Apr 11 (UNI) Vice President Bhairon Singh Shekhawat will deliver 41st Convocation address of the University of Agricultural Sciences (UAS) here on April 13, Vice Chancellor Dr M N Sheelavant said today Talking to newspersons here, he said all 591 students would be conferred degrees including 410 Bachelors, 139 Masters and 42 Doctoral degrees.

He said 29 Gold medals including six Universities, 23 Donor medals for graduates and 60 gold medals, 27 Universities and 33 donors for the post-graduate students would be awarded in the Convocation.

Besides, Dr M H Marigowda National Award to the Best Horticulture Farmers as well as Zuari Industries Best Extension Worker Award and Best Farm Superintendent Award would be distributed by the Chief guest, he added.

Replying to a question, Dr Sheelavant said that Indian Council for Agriculture Research (ICAR) sponsored Bio-technology project was progressing well and seeds may be released for field trial shortly.

''We have taken BT gene and developing seeds from western ghats, it is under process and would be released for trial shortly and for farmers within two years''.

The Bio-fuel Park in Hassan is also under implementation and it would be established soon. In this Park, there would be technology and processing made available for bio-fuel, he added.
