SE Railways to invest Rs 681 cr to double railway tracks
Kharagpur, Apr 11 (UNI) The South Eastern Railway will invest Rs 681 crore for doubling the number of railway tracks in the 2007-08.
After receiving the best Zonal Award this year, South Eastern Railway General Manager South Eastern Railway V K Raina here today said, ''We have earned an additional Rs 1000 crores revenue from freight, which is 13.6 MT, and also by carrying 11.13 million more passengers compared to last year.'' In view of this record, most of the investments as proposed by the SE Railway have been sanctioned in the Parliament, the General Manager said.
Talking about the Railway's future plans, he said a new passenger train from Kharagpur to Balasore would be introduced on May 8 commemorating the birth anniversary of poet Rabindranath Tagore.
SE Railways would also invest Rs 25 crore for a new railway bridge over river Kansaboti near Midnapur station which would ensure speedy and safe movement of the train between Kharagpur and Adra.
The third line between Panskura and Kharagpur would be coming up shortly with the necessary funds from the Railway Vikas Nigam Ltd, he said.
Mr Raina was addressing a gathering at the divisional headquarters of SE Railways at Kharagpur on the eve of the Railway Week.
