Railway earnings go up by over 16 p c

New Delhi, Apr 11 (UNI) The Railways have been able to keep up their performance earning over 16 per cent more revenue in 2006-2007.

Various services brought Rs 62484.02 crore to Railways in the financial year just ended as compared to Rs 53644.74 they earned in 2005-2006.

The total goods earnings have gone up from Rs. 36302.39 during 2005-06 to Rs. 42074.90 crore during 2006-07, an increase of 15.90 per cent.

The revenue earned from passenger services during April'06 and March'07 was Rs. 17230.53 crore compared to Rs. 15398.56 crore during the same period last year, registering an increase of 11.90 per cent.

Other coaching brought Rs. 1737.36 crore during April'06- March'07 compared to Rs. 1223.04 crore during the same period last year, an increase of 42.05 per cent.

The total sundry earnings have gone up from Rs 720.75 crore during April'05 and March'06 to Rs. 1441.23 crore during April'06 and March'07, an increase of 99.96 percent.

The approximate number of passengers booked during the financial year 2006-07 was 6352.07 million compared to 5932.10 million during the same period last year, showing an increase of 7.08 per cent.

In the suburban and non-suburban sectors, the number of passengers booked during April'06 and Marh'07 were 3517.61 million and 2834.46 million compared to 3331.89 million and 2600.21 million during the same period last year, an increase of 5.57 per cent and 9.01 per cent respectively.
