Public prosecutor shot dead
Dhaka, Apr 11 (UNI) A Public Prosecutor, who conducted the case against top militant leaders of banned Jama'atul Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB) outfit, was shot dead by unknown assailants in Bangladesh's southern district of Jhalkathi tonight.
Hossain, 53, also a former district President of Jamaat-e-Islami, died on the spot.
Witnesses said gunmen numbering three or four shot in the head of Advocate Hyder Hossain from a close range, when he came out of a mosque after the prayer.
As public prosecutor Hossain conducted the two judges' murder case in Jhalakati court that convicted the JMB kingpins and sentenced them to death. The six JMB convicts were sentenced to death.
Hossain used to complain that he was under threat of life since prosecution of the JMB kingpins last year. The death threats continued after the execution of the JMB leaders.
It could not be confirmed, if JMB militants were involved in the shoot out or not.
