Prosecution trying to devp case: Mahajan Defence

Mumbai, Apr 11: The defence in the Pramod Mahajan murder case today said the prosecution's plea, seeking more time to investigate the SMS aspect, was only to develope their case.

Defence counsel Harshad Ponda told the court of additional sessions judge S P Davare that the prosecution had been trying to develop its case since yesterday and contended that had the prosecution wanted further investigation, it would have stopped the examination-in-chief yesterday itself. The prosecution knew what was happening and was gradually trying to develop its case.

It was trying to bring in additional material, through re-examination of the witnesses that had not been recorded by the police earlier, he told the court.

Police had already seized three mobile phones of the accused, then why the details of telephone calls, SMS and other details had not surfaced then, he questioned.

It may be recalled that yesterday, special public prosecutor Ujwal Nikam had re-examined Rekha Mahajan when the latter had told the court that Praveen had demanded Rs one crore from Pramod, threatening him with dire consequences.
