Police custody for explosion case accused

Villupuram, Tamil Nadu, Apr 11 (UNI) A local court at Tindivanam this evening granted police custody of R Sekhar who was arrested in connection with Sendur Jeep Explosion Case in which 16 people lost their lives on April seven.

After his surrender in a court at Vellore on Monday, Sekhar was produced before Judicial Magistrate II Devanathan who granted police custody of the accused till April 17 after hearing prosecution and defence arguments.

Sekhar's lawyer Subbarayulu opposed the plea for police custody saying his client had not flouted any norm and all documents were in order.

After hearing to arguments from both the sides, the judge delivered his order.

Meanwhile, Mr M F Farooqi who has been appointed to probe the incident told newspersons here this evening the report will be submitted to the government in a month.

Earlier, he visited the scene of the incident and enquired with the locals. He also met the injured victims at the government hospital at Tindivanam.

Sixteen people died and 22 injured when a jeep carrying explosives from Sekhar's godown at Pathrapuliyur blew up at Chendhur Village leading to speculation if it carried RDX.
