Police arrest 12 teacher's leaders

Eluru, Andhra Pradesh, April 11 (UNI) City police today arrested 12 teachers' belonging to Joint Action Committee of Teachers Organizations (JACTO), who tried to obstruct the spot valuation of Secondary School Certificate (SSC) Examination at Xavier High School here.

In response to the call given by JACTO, the teachers were boycotting the spot valuation for the last few days all over the state. As the police tried to arrest the leaders of JACTO, teachers resisted the police at the valuation center.

The teachers were demanding the government to solve their long-standing problems and started the agitation four days back.

JACTO leaders entered the center and asked those teachers who attended the spot valuation to boycott the same.

However, the police managed to bring the JACTO leaders out of the center.

Later, the teachers resisted the police and a stampede had occured between the police and teachers. The police arrested 12 teachers for obstructing the spot valuation.

The teachers who were on duty resorted to pen down strike demanding the release of their leaders immediately. The agitation went on for over four hours at the center. The police pushed the teachers into the van after the arrests.

In the evening, the teachers squatted at one town police station and demanded immediate release of their leaders. They also demanded immediate suspension of District Educational Officer for the arrests of their leaders.

They demanded that action should be taken against the police officials who behaved brutally against the teachers' leaders. The agitation continued till 1900 hrs in the evening at the police station.
