Shimla, Apr 11 (UNI) Himachal Pradesh Governor V S Kokje today lauded the Army personnel for their dedicated service to the nation and said they need to be re-redeployed after retirement.

Inaugurating the National Seminar on Employment and Entrepreneurship Opportunities for defence officers in the service industry, he said the seminar was being organised with an objective to create awareness amongst the industry and corporate to re-deploy retired armed personnel.

Speaking on the occasion, Director General Resettlement (DGR) Harwant Krishan said the DGR was trying to provide better job opportunities to the former Army officials in tourism and travel, hospitality, aviation, health and cinematic tourism in association with Institute of Tourism and Future Trends (ITFT), Chandigarh.

He said since personnel below officers' rank (PBOR) normally retire between 35-45 years and officers between 52-55 years when their family liabilities were at the peak, it was essential that they were re-deployed in other professions.

Institute's Executive Director Gulshan Sharma, who was also present during the seminar, said it would provide vocational training to army ex-servicemen and help them to get respectable jobs after retirement.

Lamenting at the plight of retired army personnel, former Himachal tourism minister Vijay Singh Mankotia said several of them were serving as chowkidars in private companies after giving their prime to the country.

The Institute would help them lead a respectable life by re-employing them after retiring from the armed forces, he added.
