Mukhtar Ansari permitted to travel to Mau to file nomination

Ghazipur, Apr 11 (UNI) A fast track court today permitted incarcerated Independent Uttar Pradesh MLA Mukhtar Ansari to travel to Mau for filing his nomination to contest the ongoing state assembly poll.

Fast Track Court (I) permitted Mukhtar to travel to Mau on April 19 for the purpose.

Mukhtar and his elder brother, ruling Samajwadi Party MP Afzal Ansari are lodged in the Ghazipur district jail in the murder case of BJP MLA Krishnanand Rai.

In his application, Mukhtar had sought the permission for April 19, 21 and 23. However, the court turned down his plea for permission on the other two dates, when nominations are scrutinised and nominations can be withdrawn respectively.

The court further directed the sitting Mau MLA be escorted under tight security on April 19.
