Mob torches MSEDCL office in Yavatmal district
Nagpur, Apr 11 (UNI) Infuriated at prolonged power outage in the town, a mob torched the office of Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company (MSEDCL) in Digras in Yavatmal district in Vidarbha region of Maharashtra late last night.
Yavatmal district Additional Superintendent of Police (SP) Kailash Kanse told UNI by telephone the mob broke the window panes, furniture and fixtures in the office, and later set the equipment on fire.
The fire destroyed some furniture, computers, papers and a motorcycle there, he said, adding the MSEDCL officials have put the loss at Rupees 30 lakh.
Mr Kanse said there was no power in Digras since yesterday morning. The people got enraged when power was not restored even until late evening and there was nobody in the MSEDCL office to listen to their grievance or explain the cause for the prolonged outage, the Additional SP said.
The crowd that had gathered at the office then gave vent to its ire and went on a rampage, he said.
An offence has been registered in this connection, but no arrests has been made so far, he added.
