Meghalaya govt to start Dogs survey

Shillong, Apr 11 (UNI) Meghalaya government would conduct a survey on population of dogs as the animals were not registered with the Shillong Municipal Board, state Urban Affairs Minister Paul Lyngdoh told the Assembly today.

Mr Lyngdoh said that so far only 100 dogs have been registered with the Municipal Board despite the registration of dogs is mandatory.

The Minister said that the population of dogs in Shillong was more than thousands.

To a question, the Minister said the government has taken steps to contain the menace of stray dogs by deploying dog catching squad to concerned area to catch and eliminate the stray dogs as per the Meghalaya Municipal Act, 1973.
