Khanduri govt nominates Anglo-Indian MLA

Dehra Dun, Apr 11 (UNI) The Maj Gen (Retd)Bhuvan Chandra Khanduri led Bharatiya Janata Party government in Uttarakhand nominated an Anglo Indian as the 71st member of the state Legislature.

Maj Gen Khanduri nominated Ms Karen Mayer Hilton as the member of Assembly yesterday to represent the Anglo Indian community in the state. Ms Hilton (40) is an educationists and a social worker engaged in Leprosy mission. Besides, she also runs a preparatory school.

Earlier, the BJP had secured 34 seats in the assembly election, one seat short to form the government. However, it had formed the government with the support of regional party Uttarakhand Kranti Dal and independents. Later, the BJP also won the Bajpur seat taking the party's majority to 35. The Bajpur election was earlier deferred owing to the death of a Congress candidates before assembly election.

With the nomination of Ms Hilton, the Party has reached to a comfortable 36 MLAs in the 71 member State Assembly, including one nominated Legislator. Beside, the party has retained support from UKD with 3 MLAs and other 3 independents.
