IAF Cheetah helicopter crashes in Siachen

Srinagar, Apr 11 (UNI) An Indian Airforce helicopter crashed in Siachen in Jammu and Kashmir this morning, a Defence ministry spokesman said.

The helicopter took off from the base camp this morning in the Siachen area for a routine flight, he said.

However, it lost contact with the control tower during the flight.

It was now confirmed that it had crashed somewhere on the Glacier, he said, adding that the fate of the pilots was not immediately known.

A rescue operation has been launched, he added.
