HM management declares suspension of work in Uttarpara unit
Kolkata, Apr 11 (UNI) Authorities have declared suspension of work in Hindustan Motors (HM) Uttarpara factory as labour trouble continued to plague the country's oldest automobile manufacturing unit.
C K Birla Group General Manager (Corporate Communications) Sony Srivastav today told UNI that the suspension of work was declared last night for an indefinite period.
The factory, witnessing strike by a section of workers and regular clashes between rival unions, has more than 4,000 employees on the pay role.
''We have been constrained to suspend work because of continued lawlessness in the premises of the factory. We cannot risk the lives and property. We are open to resume work whenever the situation normalises,'' she said.
