Heavy rains lashed Tripura

Agartala, Apr 11(UNI) Tripura experienced heavy rains last night bringing the much needed respite to the people of the state.

Met office here today said many low lying areas of the capital city was waterlogged and rain water entered in a number of schools.

Vehicles could not ply on the roads which were mostly water logged.

After a long spell of dryness, water levels of various rivers and other water bodies gradually started increasing due to the rains.

Farmers were happy as they could start agricultural activities which was damaged due to the dry spell.

Met sources said rain was likely in the next 24 hours and sky would remain cloudy.

Till morning 198.0 mm of rainfall has been recorded.

A number of "kutcha" houses were also damaged due to storm in a number areas of the districts. There was, however, no reports of major losses of properties or lives so far, sources said.
