HC directs govt to implement rules to protect tuskers
Kochi, Apr 11 (UNI) The Kerala High Court today directed the state government to strictly implement the provisions of the Captive Elephant Maintenance&Mangement Rules to protect the tuskers.
Mr Justice C N Ramachandran Nair gave the direction while considering a batch of the petitions to bring elephants from other states to Kerala.
The court also prohibited elephant processions between 1100 hrs and 1500 hrs considering the searing heat of summer.
The court also directed the temple authorities concerned to provide 250 kg of food and 500 litre of drinking water for each elephant every day.
The implementation of the rules should be ensured by police and revenue authorities, the court observed.
