Puducherry, Apr 11 (UNI) Puducherry Chief Minister N Rangasamy today said the hartal and road blockade to protest against the setting up of Special Economic Zones (SEZs) at Karasur and Saidarapet was 'unwarranted.' Replying to a special mention in the Assembly during Zero Hour, the Chief Minister said the administration was committed to ensuring that the welfare of people was not affected while implemeting the schemes.

If the village leaders or people had any doubt in the land acquisition for SEZs, they could meet him, Mr Rangasamy said.

Tabling his special mention, Mr Anbazhagan of the AIADMK, pointing out the stir by the villagers for the past two days, demanded that the government should make it clear whether the people would be affected due to the setting up of SEZs in Saidarapet.

In another special mention, DMK member S P Sivakumar brought to the notice of the House, the plight of final year MBBS students selected through the centralised admission committee as the college management was preventing them from appearing for the university examination this year.

He also sought Chief Minister's intervention into the issue.

However, no reply was given from the government side.
