GSM subscriber base at 121 mln during Mar'07

New Delhi, Apr 11 (UNI) Cellular Operators Association of India (COAI) today reported a GSM subscriber addition of over 6.13 million during March, the highest ever since inception of the service.

The cumulative all India GSM subscriber base stands at 121 million in March 2007, up from 115 million in February 2007, a growth of about 5 per cent during the month.

COAI Director General Ramachandran said, ''COAI is delighted at the pace of subscriber growth which has been primarily driven by ever increasing subscriber demand for the GSM service.'' Among all circles, Category C circles continued to witness the highest rate of growth at 8.7 per cent, followed by Category B circles at 6 per cent.

Within the Category C circles, the highest growth was recorded by the Asom Circle (12.4 per cent) followed by North East Circle (11.2 per cent).

Amongst the Category B circles, Rajasthan recorded highest growth at (11.13 per cent), followed by Uttar Pradesh (East) at (6.74 per cent).

Amongst Category A circles, Karnataka recorded the highest growth at (5.82 per cent) followed by Tamil Nadu at (5.77 per cent).

The metro subscribers grew by 3 per cent in March with Chennai recording the highest growth at 4.8 per cent followed by Kolkata (3.5 per cent), according to figures compiled by the GSM body.
