Itanagar, Apr 11 (UNI) Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Dorjee Khandu has proved his mettle as a good administrator on his first day at office when he rejected bribe from a high level official and instead ordered for an immediate inquiry.

Alerted by the chief minister's office on the alleged bribery case by PWD (East Zone) chief engineer T Gongo, Itanagar Police last evening registered an FIR and launched a preliminary investigation.

Police said they were aware of the matter and actions would be initiated under relevant clauses of the law.

Official sources, however, wondered that there could not have been a better gift - an urgent file impregnated with bundles of currency notes amounting to Rs five lakh - reportedly a bribe for the chief minister, a day after he announced to root out corruption at all levels immediately after taking oath on Monday.

Sources said the chief minister was requested and insisted by the chief engineer to clear the file immediately for it was already approved by the minister concerned.
