Fake currency used in phase I UP poll; Probe on
Mahoba, Apr 11: The district administration is probing upon reports, that the mafia elements had pushed a large quantity of fake Indian currency notes in the market during the first phase of Uttar Pradesh polls on April 7.
Soures claimed the police have been directed to conduct an intelligence probe to dig out the truth in the matter.
There are unconfirmed reports of money being distributed among villagers of Jaitpur block, two days before the April 7 polling as inducements to vote for a particular candidate.
The fake currency notes were detected, when the villagers allegedly tried to buy essentials in the market.
Later, police were informed of the development.
Interestingly, district magistrate Samir Verma feigned ignorance in the issue and said appropriate action would be taken, when the matter comes before him.
