EC questions presence of a top cop during release of CD

Lucknow, Apr 11: The Election Commission has questioned the presence of a senior police officer during a political function in the state capital today during release of a 'secular CD' aimed at countring the controversial CD issued by BJP.

''We will examine the issue and then only it can be said whether the election model code has been violated'', said state additional CEO Mritunjay Kumar Narain here.

Earlier in the day, state Additional Director general of Police (Vigilence) V N Rai was on the dais during a release of a CD to counter the controversial CD of the BJP.

Titled as 'Secular Voices', the disc has been produced by a social group -- Anhad, headed by Shabnam Hashmi.

During the function on the release of the CD, the participants also criticised the BJP for creating communal disturbances in the country.

According to a complaint, the ADG also used his official vehicle to attend the function.

EC, by its earlier directives, had banned officials or government employees to participate in any political function related to the assembly polls.
