Domestic car sales rise 22.01% in 2006-07

New Delhi, Apr 11 (UNI) The domestic passenger car sales rose by 22.01 per cent in the year ended March 31, 2007 to 1,076,408 units from 882,208 in the corresponding period last year.

The exports during the period went up by 13.39 per cent at 1,92,645 units from 1,69,990 vehicles in the previuos year, according to data released by industry body Soiety of Indian Automobile Manfacturers (SIAM) here today.

The domestic sales in March 2007 grew by 2.9 per cent 1,14,195 units from 1,10,978, units in March 2006, while the exports during the same period registered a 33.2 per cent hike at 17,759 cars from 13,330 units.

Commercial vehicle sales in the year stood at 4,67,882, posting an increase of 33.28 per cent from 3,51,041 a year ago.

Sales of commercial vehicles increased to 49,245 in March, up 13.2 per cent year on year from sales of 43,502 units in the same month last year.

Motorcycles sales grew by 12.79 per cent to 65,53,664 during 2006-07 from 58,10,599 2005-06.

The overall automobile industry reported a 13.50 per cent growth.
