CLP hails Centre's directive on Babli project
Hyderabad, Apr 11 (UNI) The Congress Legislature Party (CLP) today hailed the Centre for directing the Maharashtra government to stop the illegal construction of the Babli project.
Addressing a press conference here, Congress legislators T Jeevan Reddy and Murali Mohan said the state government, led by Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy, had succeeded in pressurising the Centre to issue necessary instructions to the Maharashtra Government keeping the state's interest in mind.
He said though the Chief Minister condemned the lathicharge on the Telugu Desam Party workers by Maharashtra policemen yesterday and extended moral support to its north Telangana bandh, it, it was unfortunate that TDP leaders were trying to politicise the issue.
Mr Reddy said the state government, taking into confidence all opposition parties, had taken several steps to stop the illegal construction of the Babli project by the Maharashtra Government.
Opposition leader and Telugu Desam Party (TDP) President N Chandrababu Naidu, in a letter to the Chief Minister, demanded that the state government must register cases against Maharashtra policemen for causing injuries to peaceful agitators and for illegal detention of TDP legislators within Andhra Pradesh.
Mr Naidu said the state government should denounce and condemn the attitude of the Maharashtra government and send a letter to the Centre for an urgent inquiry into the matter by an independent agency.
He claimed about 150 TDP workers and farmers were injured in police some action of them seriously.
