Centre denies prescribing any sex education school books

New Delhi, Apr 11 (UNI) Responding to the extreme opposition expressed by some states against sex education school text books, Human Resource Development Minister Arjun Singh today told them that they were free to withdraw the books, if they found their contents objectionable.

''The Centre has given no suggestions in this regard and brought out no books on the subject,'' the HRD Minister told mediapersons while briefing them about the outcome of the two-day state education ministers conference that ended here today.

He was asked about the reservations expressed by some states like Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan and Maharashtra against the books brought out by NACO and UNICEF.

Not only sex education books, but also some unauthorised books on other subjects in circulation were imparting wrong knowledge, and they should be withdrawn.

Later, HRD Minister of State D Puradeswari the Ministry was seized of the matter and was consulting the CBSE in this regard.
