Cauvery agitators to resort to non-cooperation

Mysore, Apr 11: Protesting the Centre's 'inaction' on the Cauvery Water Disputes Tribunal final award even after two months of the verdict being pronounced, the Cauvery Hitarakshana Samithi has decided to resort to non-cooperation from April 16 in Mandya district, the hotbed of the Cauvery agitation.

Speaking at a public meeting in Malavalli, Samithi President G Made Gowda said the agitation would take a different course from that day. Rail roko and road blockade would be resorted to and the agitators would travel without tickets. Farmers and the general public would be asked not to pay taxes. Protests would also be staged in front of Central Government offices in Mandya district.

Meanwhile, M Halli and Godihalli Milk Producers Association members, along with farmers, staged a dharna at Silver Jubilee park in Mandya. Dharnas were also held in Maddur, Srirangapatna and Pandavapura in the district.

In Chamarajanagar district, the Youth Voluntary Federation staged a protest and submitted a memorandum to the Deputy Commissioner.

The Cauvery Kriya Samithi continued its protest at K R Circle in Mysore.
