3 persons hacked to death

Jhansi, Apr 11 (UNI) Armed miscreants today hacked to death three people, including the husband of the Karaiya gram pradhan, in Mauranipur area here today.

The deceased were identified as gram pradhan Asha Devi's husband Jai Prakash (40), Chhilani (65) and Chinnu (28). One of the accused Mewalal has been arrested.

According to police, four brothers Mewalal, Sukhram, Ramji and Dhirendra -- accused in a criminal case -- were pestering Jai Prakash to save them by giving a statement that the quartet were with him at the time of crime.

However, Jai Prakash refused to oblige.

Enraged over this, the brothers aided by two others, armed with sharp-edged weapons, barged inside the gram pradhan's house and carried out the killing. They later fled.

Meanwhile, locals claim the crime was related to an old enmity, since Jai Prakash was one of the three accused in a five-year-old double murder case. An investigation was on.
