TTD performs Kalyanotsavam in Dalit colony
Tirupati, Apr 9 (UNI) As part of ' the Dalit Govinda' programme, an attempt was made to woo Dalits back to the Hindu mainstream fold as the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams(TTD) today performed the Lord's Kalyanotsavam with the temple priests and vedic scholars chanting hymns at Dalit Colony in 'Dalit Wada'.
TTD Chairman B Karunakara Reddy brought the idol of Lord Venkateswara in a procession to the Dalit Colony after performing special rituals at Padmavathi temple in Tiruchanoor, near here.
As many 1000 residents of the Colony witnessed the Kalyanotsavam performed by the temple priests and vedic scholars.
Mr Reddy alongwith other TTD officials, priests and scholars would be tonight at Dalit's colony with the idol.
The TTD Chairman said Hindu religion and philosophy had never discriminated against a person, irrespective of caste, creed, community and religion as it was never a part of vedic tradition.
Some vested interests had enforced it to suit their self interests, he alleged.
Speaking on the occasion, TTD Execuive Officer APVN Sarma said the weaker sections were having the privilege of having the first darshan early in the morning, since they open the door of the Tirumala temple.
Elaborate security arrangements were made on the occasion.
