Telgi's plea to turn approver rejected

Pune, Apr 10 (UNI) The special MCOCA court here today rejected the plea of prime accused in the multi-crore fake stamp paper case Abdul Karim Telgi of turning approver.

Special court judge Chitra Bhedi, while rejecting the plea, observed that since the accused was allegedly the master mind in the case and had also served sentences in related cases, he could not become ''approver''.

The CBI had opposed Telgi's plea on the grounds that he was the kingpin in the case and had already been charged under various sections.

Telgi's counsel Milind Pawar had argued that his client had some vital information that could throw new light on the matter.

Some of the disclosures could not be made by Telgi through video-conferencing, he had contended.

However, Telgi has sought permission to be allowed to be present in the court. The court, while granting him the permission, has fixed April 12 for his appearance in court. The court would also seek CBI's views in the matter.
