Tax collection in Delhi exceeds target once again

New Delhi, Apr 10 (UNI) Delhi government's Trade and Tax Department has once again achieved the distinction of exceeding tax collection over prescribed target in year 2006-07.

Delhi Finance Minister A K Walia today said this distinction was a reflection of trust of traders and efficiency of the department.

Target of tax collection was Rs 6,500 crore, whereas collection was Rs 6,624.57 crore which was 101.92 per cent of prescribed target in year 2005-06 whereas corresponding figure for year 2006-07 were Rs 7,400 crore, Rs 7,597.24 crore and 102.67 per cent respectively.

The growth in respect of collection was recorded at 14.68 per cent in year 2006-07 over collection pertaining to year 2005-06.

The T and T Department was able to recover outstanding demand worth Rs 82.83 crore in year 2006-07 against recovery of Rs 53.89 crore in year 2005-06 which showed 53.70 per cent growth.

The department had also proved to be trader-friendly as it had released refund amount of Rs 221 crore through Electronic Clearing System in year 2006-07 against release of Rs 124.75 crore in year 2005-06 which was 77.15 per cent more than last year.
